There are plenty of advantages to the cooler weather and chief among them in my book: it’s butternut squash season (second only to boot season). While this ubiquitous squash is available year-round, fall is really prime season. When shopping, look for squash that feels slightly heavy for its size. There should be no bruising or mold on the skin. Be sure to store butternut squash in a cool, dark place and never keep it in the refrigerator.

Slow Cooker Coq au Vin
Julia Child put Coq au Vin on the menu of many Americans households back in 1961 when her famous “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” was published. She often featured it on her PBS show, and this French braised chicken and wine dish became an entertaining “go to” for anyone trying to impress.
7 Favorite Deep Fryer Recipes
On a recent business trip to New York City, I was going through security at a big publishing house where I had to sign in and show proper ID to the receptionist. She was quite distracted as there was a big line forming making her a bit cranky. When she asked the name of my company, she perked right up. She told me she had just bought a Hamilton Beach Deep Fryer over the weekend (she whispered when she said deep fryer), and she loved it. She proceeded to tell me that after learning how to use a deep fryer, she now fries all the time and I was then fast-tracked through security – thanks to her love for her new deep fryer.
