DIY Iron-On Holiday Gift Bags

Finding the perfect wrapping is almost as exciting as finding the perfect gift. Whether you are going full-on red and green this year or want to create a winter wonderland under the tree with whites and blues, snowmen and snowflakes – wrapping is something you can really get excited about. Especially this time of year.

While there’s plenty of festive wrapping paper and glitter-coated bags to fill your cart with online and in stores, go the extra snow-covered mile this year and make your own customized gift bags this holiday season.

We use Cricut Design Space to create the text for our gift bags. But you could use InDesign or Illustrator, or call the art school graduate in the family and have them create the design for you (tell them it’s their gift to you).

Once your holiday fonts and phrases are set in stone, print your designs onto transfer paper. You can purchase transfer paper at craft stores, office supply stores, or online.

When the transfer sheets are printed, grab your Durathon® iron. Make sure you follow the iron-on directions found on your transfer paper pack or individual sheets. They will vary by brand.

Apply pressure and hold the Durathon® iron on top of the transfer sheet and lettering. Once you have ironed for the specified time, let the iron-on cool. Carefully peel back the transfer paper and there you have it – customized gift bags for everyone on your Nice List.

I’ll be wrapping all of my smaller gifts in these customized bags. Homemade fruit preserves, wine bottles, kitchen utensils – something for everyone. The lucky recipient is sure to appreciate the time and effort spent both picking out the gifts and crafting custom gift bags (that they can reuse next year!)
