  • 2 cans (15.5 ounces each) northern beans, drained
  • 1 large sweet onion, chopped
  • 1 small jalapeno, minced
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 3 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse black pepper
  • Chopped cooked bacon for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a slow cooker crock, stir together beans, onion, jalapeno, molasses, brown sugar, mustard, salt and pepper.
  2. Cover slow cooker and cook on HIGH for 5 to 6 hours or LOW for 11 to 12 hours or until sauce has slightly thickened. Sprinkle with bacon before serving.

In the slow cooker crock, mix two cans of pork and beans, two cans of northern beans, onion, jalapeño, molasses (for some added sweetness and nice, deep color), brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper.

Cover and cook on HIGH for 5 to 6 hours or LOW for 11 to 12 hours. You’ll know they’re done when the sauce has thickened slightly.

We love making baked beans in the slow cooker because there is no need to dirty any extra dishes. You mix all the ingredients in the crock, set it, and forget it. Once the beans are done, you can use the slow cooker as an easy way to transport the beans to the summer party or potluck. The Hamilton Beach® Set & Forget® 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker’s clip-locked, secure lid has a tight seal to help ensure that you, your shirt, and your car arrive spill-free. It can even function as the serving dish. No need to transfer these baked beans to a serving bowl, just switch the slow cooker to WARM and let party guests serve themselves.

Get creative with toppings and mix-ins for your baked beans. We added a generous sprinkling of crispy bacon on top, but you could add almost anything to these beans. Have plenty of fresh fruit in the kitchen? Chop up summer favorites like fresh peaches or juicy pineapple and stir them into the beans for a tropical spin. Want a little kick? Stir in your favorite hot sauce and top with extra jalapeños or peppers from your garden.

Whether you are serving these beans at your Fourth of July block party or need a go-to side to serve alongside burgers and hotdogs, baked beans will be on your plate all summer long.
