One of my favorite flavor combinations in the world is balsamic vinegar and strawberries. I use this combination in salads, on top of desserts, with fish, and just about any other place I can dream up. But I hadn’t tried the balsamic berry combo in smoothies yet. It simply never occurred to me to add balsamic vinegar to a breakfast item…until now.

First, can we talk balsamic vinegar for a second? It used to be there were one or two varieties of balsamic vinegar. Now, thanks to some smart people doing some tasty experiments, we have balsamic vinegar flavor combinations out the wazoo! I recently purchased some white peach balsamic vinegar that’s amazing. While I was at that specialty shop, I also came across chocolate balsamic vinegar, espresso balsamic vinegar, berry balsamic vinegar and so much more! There was a flavor to suit every palate. We’re lucky to live in a world with so many options!

For the Balsamic Strawberry Fruit Smoothie recipe I’m sharing today, I used my new peach balsamic vinegar, but you can use original balsamic vinegar and be just fine. The key is to let your berries soak in the balsamic long enough that they are infused with this unique flavor. It will really make your smoothie stand out in flavor way beyond just a regular fruit smoothie. I hope you enjoy it!

Balsamic Strawberry Fruit Smoothie

Yield: Serves 1
Author: Hamilton Beach Test Kitchen

Ingredients

  • ½ cup fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
  • ¼ cup balsamic vinegar (I prefer a white variety, simply so it doesn’t change the color of the smoothie)
  • 6 ounces vanilla yogurt
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • ¼ cup ice

Instructions

  1. Place chopped strawberries and balsamic vinegar in a small bowl. Stir, cover and refrigerate overnight.
  2. The next morning place all ingredients in your blender and blend until completely smooth (about 2 minutes).
  3. Pour into a glass, serve and enjoy!
