TrueAir® air purification and odor elimination FAQs

Air purifiers and odor eliminators are great for any household, but with so many of us spending more time at home, there may be more questions about filtering out allergens, dust, pollution and, of course, those kitchen fumes from all the cooking and cleaning we are doing. We love to answer consumer questions and thought now is a good time to share answers to the most popular Hamilton Beach® TrueAir® Air Purifiers and TrueAir® Odor Eliminators questions.

Air Purification

Q: Does the TrueAir Compact Air Purifier help with pet dander?

A: Yes, the TrueAir Compact Pet Air Purifier comes with three filtration stages. The first filter removes larger particles like pet hair, the carbon filter removes odor and the HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter removes dander and smaller airborne particles.

Q: What is the difference between the Pet Air Purifier and Allergen Air Purifier?

A: Both purifiers use a permanent HEPA filter that captures 99% of pet dander, dust, dust mites, pollen, and mold/mildew spores as small as 3 microns*  from the air.

The Pet Air Purifier also includes a Pre-Filter to remove pet hair and airborne particles and 2 Zeolite Carbon filters that address pet odors.

All TrueAir Air Purifiers can have Carbon Filters installed in the filtering process.

Don’t forget to replace your timestrip cartridge replacement indicator when doing so!

A: We recommend placing your Air Purifier in any location that is convenient for you and that allows air to easily flow in and out of the unit. Air Purifiers can be oriented vertically or horizontally and should be kept out of reach of pets and children.

A: The High Performance HEPA-Grade filters capture 99% of pet dander, dust, dust mites, pollen, and mold/mildew spores as small as 3 microns from the air.

Q: Do TrueAir Air Purifiers capture the coronavirus?

A: Air purifiers capture a wide range of particle sizes that are airborne and pass through the filter media, some of which may be even smaller than the size of coronavirus similar to that of COVID-19. Although TrueAir Air Purifiers help reduce MS2 bacteriophages and virus loads in the air, more research needs to be done to understand how air purifiers mitigate transmission of airborne illnesses. In the meantime, we recommend that all consumers follow CDC guidelines for protecting oneself from COVID-19 and continue to use their TrueAir Air Purifiers to improve their indoor air quality.

A: A fan within the unit pulls odors through the carbon filters and sends fresh air back into the room.
